International Audience for Schola Cantorum Choirboys
A group of 40 boys from the Schola Cantorum of St Peter’s Cathedral Belfast have sung before a packed congregation of 3,000 in Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris. This was the first time a Cathedral boys choir from Ireland was given this privilege.
The group sang a Mass setting by Schubert, an introit, Ave Maria, by Victoria and a communion motet by de Severac. They were led by the Cathedral Director of Music Nigel McClintock, along with the Assistant Director of Schola Helen Frame, and were accompanied by the Cathedral Administrator Fr Hugh Kennedy and Fr Thomas McGlynn. Following the conclusion of the Mass, the choir were invited to process out through the Cathedral, and were met by spontaneous applause from an international congregation.
